He Makes Me Smile!

This is Daxter!  When God made Daxter I think he threw away the mold!
Now if you've read my blog before you may have heard me talk about him.  He was originally Cassie's dog but as fate would have it when she got married the dog stayed with us.  And also as fate would have it I have grown to love this dog....he makes me smile and laugh almost every day!
Take today for instance, it's fall and so the harvest is in full swing which means canning.  Today I was snapping the beans in the family room as I watched a movie when the phone rang, it was Scott.  Now Scott has always said that there isn't anything that Daxter won't eat and of course Daxter has to prove it at every turn.
When I got back to the family room and sat back down to finish the beans, my discard pile of beans which are too old looked a little smaller but I didn't think much of it; that is until Daxter returned from the piano room and politely grabbed another bean from the discard pile and trotted back to the piano room.  The funniest thing was he wasn't even trying to be sneaky about it.  He brazenly grabbed the bean like it belonged to him and walked off, didn't even run....just walked.
Thanks for making me smile Daxter!  Life would be really boring without you!

Summer is Almost Over

Summer is almost over and I haven't posted once.  I feel especially bad since I looked online and saw that my sister has placed about 3 posts this month.  I shouldn't feel too bad because other that those three the last one time she posted was September 2009.
School starts next week and can I say that I'm so excited.  Maybe then I can get some of my projects done.  This whole summer on my days off I have felt like Nicole's personal secretary and chauffeur.  If it hasn't been soccer tournaments twice a month it has been friends over and swimming the other days.  I have a dresser to strip and paint, a chair to recover and I was going to get Nicole's room repainted which hasn't happened either....now where do I start first!!!!
I'll try and keep you posted!

Bird Watching

We've been in our house for almost ten years now...wow, I can't believe that it has been that long.  One of the things I love about this house is watching the birds in the backyard!  This has been a favorite past time since we moved in.  I have pictures of Nicole (before she was even two) standing in the windowsill in the kitchen watching the birds.

Today I was standing by the kitchen sink eating breakfast when I saw a flash of yellow.  At first I thought that it was just on the little yellow chickadees that we sometimes see, but then I looked again and noticed that it was bigger and brighter.  I went and got out the binoculars that we bought in Yellowstone to see if I could see it better.  It was a bird that I have never seen before.  Then I remembered the camera that Scott bought me for my birthday and decided to see if I could get a good picture with it.  I ran upstairs to my sewing room where I had been using it but by the time I got back downstairs the bird had moved away from the pond and back into the trees.
I patiently watched a little while longer taking pictures of it in the trees but then my patients paid off when it came by the pond along with another male and a female.  Isn't it beautiful!  Now if this isn't proof that there is a God, I don't know what is!

How Big Is Corbin?

Tomorrow is my grandson Corbin's Birthday Party!  He turned 1 yesterday.  I know...April Fool's Day.  It was his father's idea to schedule his birth on the first of April...poor baby!

Any who, I decided to do a growth board for him so that he can see how big he is as he is growing up.  This is probably more for his mom but then at one years old what presents do they really like.  I do like how it turned out.  Hope he will appreciate it some day.

I also need to get his Cookie Monster birthday cake made but that is a tomorrow morning's project....wish me luck!

Sleep...Where Is Thy Peace?

I've been awake since 2am.  Aaargh!  I hate it when I wake up in the middle of the night and my mind starts racing.  To bad there isn't an on/off switch for the brain.  I tried to go back to sleep.  Counted 1-100 backwards all the way to 10 and realized that wasn't working...probably because I had to think too hard of what number came next.  Hummed my favorite hymn in my head...no good.  Even got up and said prayers to see if that wouldn't help, but it didn't.
3am - Decided to get up and do something more productive than just letting my mind race...to bad you can't burn calories that way!  I got up and worked on Nicole's scrapbook and my calendar.  See the results  aren't half bad.  Would rather have been sleeping though.

5am - Went downstairs and looked at email, blogs and what not.
6am - I have a headache from sleep deprivation.  Not sure it's worth going back to bed for an hour though .  I have to get Nicole up at seven.  Maybe a nap will have to be the order of the day today!

Luck of the Irish

I didn't have any St. Patrick's Day decorations and was a little bummed about it.  Then as I was looking at blogs online I found the cutest little blocks that said "Lucky" and I just knew I had to make them.  But why only make one set when I can make four and give them to my daughter and daughters-in-law.  So I bought an 8 foot 2x4 on Friday and got busy with it on Friday night.  It's nice to know that I always have help from my nine year old....she loves to paint!  I hesitated posting this yet because Cassie hasn't gotten her set yet, but oh well....Surprise!
I think they are super cute!!!

A Tisket A Tasket

One of the gals I visit teach had her birthday on Tuesday and I wanted to do something a little different for her.  So Tuesday night after work I went home and made this basket full of cookies.  I think she liked it.  I know I had fun doing it!

Let It Snow

I have to share with you my newest creation!  I must admit that I have been looking at a bunch of blogs that share craft ideas and I found this one that I just had to try.

It's my sign that says "Let it Snow" and I love it!  I had everything I needed but the wood and sandpaper which cost me just over $5 at the Home Depot.  So I went to the store after work and got my wood then came home tonight and cut my wood and painted it black.  While that was drying I cut out my saying out of vinyl letters on my Cricut.  Then I sanded the edges and placed on the saying.

I placed it on the upstairs balcony so you can see it when you come in the front door.  I like it so much that I may even make some more to give away as gifts.

Thanks for visiting and have a good day!
